The Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi 2024 driving iron is an upgrade on the previous model and at first glance seems to be pretty similar.

The finish is the same black gloss style and the head is made from the same combination of a 431SS steel body with a separate MAS1C face welded to the front. A 21g tungsten weight is located in the centre of the sole to lower the CG and help get the ball airborne.

There are three lofts from a 16.5° 2-iron, a 19° 3-iron to a 21.5° 4-iron all with a fixed hosel that can take any shaft in the SGGT driving iron custom fitting.

However when I compared the new and current 2-irons a number of differences popped up. The Pro Fli-Hi 24 head on the right below is a little more compact with less offset and a narrower sole creating a better look at address.

What also contributes better look is the black top line which hides the face insert rather than highlighting it as the grey line did on the previous model.

On Trackman using Titleist Pro V1 balls hit outdoors you could see the more penetrating flight from the Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi 2024 driving iron.

The shorter more compact head could get through the air quicker for more ball speed and reduce the amount of spin for a 6 yard gain in carry.

However the big gain was in feel and performance as the 2024 version was much easier and much more fun to hit. At 16.5° it is quite a low lofted 2-iron, but it doesn't play like it. Having had one of the original Fli-Hi irons in the bag for many years, this is the first successor that I would consider replacing it with and I am not usually a fan of black irons.

If you are a fan then you will like this even more as the Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi 2024 utility iron will be one of the driving irons to beat this year.
