Standard Loft v High Loft Irons

Everyone likes more distance from their irons, but if this is done using stronger lofts then it could be doing you more harm than good.
The current 'standard' lofts on certain irons can be two clubs more than traditional lofts, leading to low spin, low height and lack of control. So, are the High Launch (HL) variants a better option for golfers who want to get height and control the ball?
