Titleist Vokey SM9 Wedges Pitch Up At Hogan Studio
Titleist Vokey wedges have been saving players shots around the greens for decades and the enhancements in the SM9 range continue to lead the way in wedge performance.
The SM9 features a straighter leading edge in the lower lofts to enhance the transition from your irons into the higher lofted wedges.
The Progressive CG position moves the CG up the face in the higher lofts to position it behind the impact point for improved feel, forgiveness and a more penetrating flight.
With 6 grinds spread over lofts from 46° to 62° the Vokey SM9 range is one of the most comprehensive and therefore a professional fitting is a must to get the correct bounce on each sole and the right loft gaps between each club.
Read on to find out how our Titleist wedge fitting session in the Hogan Studio can identify the right wedge combination for your game.
How We Fit Wedges In The Hogan Studio
With the SM9 covering 23 models of varying lofts and grinds, it is vital to get the right combination of loft and bounce to ensure that you have every distance and type of shot covered for your game.
Our wedge fitting process starts outside on our short game practice area hitting 20 yard shots from grass and bunkers. Starting with your highest desired loft we dial in the bounce that gives the most consistent trajectory and distance around the green.
Then we take that wedge into the Hogan Studio on Trackman to hit full shots to see the maximum distance you are comfortable hitting it with a full swing. We then compare that to the distance of your set wedge to determine the distance gap that needs to be filled by any remaining wedges.
If your highest loft is a lob wedge then we would go through the outdoor process again for your sand wedge to establish the correct bounce again before moving onto the gap wedges.
Scott Fraser, Lead Fitter On Wedge Fitting

"The biggest misconception we see is players thinking they need low bounce wedges. Bounce is your friend especially when you miss a green with longer grass around it."
"For most players 3 wedges with a maximum loft of 56° in the right grind is ideal. However for others including a 'get out of jail' lob wedge is required. Our wedge fitting process will get the right combination for your bag to maximise your chances of getting the ball up and down."
