SGGT welcomed the Srixon Tour Truck to our custom fitting studios in Edinburgh and invited some special guests to see how Srixon supports their players on tour.

The special guests were 7 members of the On Course Foundation UK which is a charity that supports the recovery of injured and sick service personnel and veterans through nationwide confidence building golf events and opportunities for employment in the golf industry. They included Colin MacLachlan former SAS soldier, author and star of Channel 4's Who Dares Wins.

Set up by Nick Faldo’s former manager John Simpson to give veterans a better quality of life, there is also the Simpson Cup which is a Ryder Cup style match between the UK and USA sections of the On Course Foundation. Several of the guests we hosted had played in the event, including Chris Paterson who is the record points scorer.

The On Course players were given a fantastic tour round the tour truck by Srixon/Cleveland Product manager Joe Miller, who demonstrated how they measure and build clubs, explaining all the lengths they go to get the clubs 100% accurate for their tour players.

Many of them did not realise that Srixon is part of the Sumitomo Group that also owns Dunlop. Through golf ball patents and tyres on the road most of them will probably have already come in contact with many Sumitomo products.

The group were then given a tour of the SGGT Scotland fitting studios where they hit shots in the Lyle Studio for driver custom fitting and the Hogan Studio for irons custom fitting.

From there it was through to the SGGT workshop where founder Scott Gourlay demonstrated the SST Pure process and explained how this machine which is unique to SGGT in Scotland can improve the performance of your golf shafts.

SST Pure Scotland Fitting

The On Course guests were blown away by the level of detail that goes into making the best performing clubs as Chris Paterson commented: “SGGT custom fitting is almost more intricate than the Srixon tour van, who have to deal with players making specific requests. The tour professionals are already fitted so they build the clubs to a very high standard and make adjustments for the course they are playing that week.

SGGT starts from the beginning on the process with players coming to get fitted. The time that they take and the technology that they use, such as the SST Pure of the shaft, means that the end product has a huge advantage over off the rack clubs. When you come here you are getting an independent club fitting to the right standard and you are not getting pressurised into any brands. I will be coming to get fitted in the future and it was great to see behind the scenes as I have been following SGGT on social media for a while.”

Founder Scott Gourlay was delighted to have the On Course Players experience SGGT and the Srixon Tour van. “A big thank you to Srixon for bringing their tour van along for the day to share with our customers. They have a great range of products and we are proud to be stocking their full range of Srixon woods and irons and Cleveland wedges at SGGT."

"It was also great to share the truck and what we do with the On Course Foundation guys. Their stories of serving our country and overcoming their physical and mental challenges is an inspiration to us all. The Foundation does amazing work and it is great to see the players getting all this support and enjoyment from their love of the game of golf."
