The Titleist GT drivers replace the Titleist TSR driver with a new design that features ‘Generational Technology’, hence the GT name.

The design is about creating more speed from using lighter materials and a new more aerodynamic shape.

Instead of titanium the crown is now made from a lighter polymer that looks and sounds like metal when you tap it. Saving weight in the crown means that Titleist can position it elsewhere in the head to benefit speed and forgiveness.

The sole has been raised at the back to give the head a better profile and help with the aerodynamics so that it goes through the air quicker to generate more ball speed.

Finally, the vertical lines on the face of all the Titleist GT drivers have a silver finish to make them stand out more at address, which apparently is something their Tour players like.

Titleist GT2 Driver Review

The Titleist GT2 driver is the largest profile head at address and this deeper design is meant to offer the most forgiveness. Like the other models the CG position is lower down and closer to the face to improve launch and speed.

Despite there being a join between the polymer crown and the rest of the head chassis, Titleist has worked hard to make it look seamless and retain that classic clean, dark look at address across all the models.

Compared to the previous TSR2, the GT2 is closer in shape to the GT3, so with its extra forgiveness, it may have a greater appeal to better players.

Titleist GT3 Driver Review

The Titleist GT3 driver has a more compact profile that the GT2, but is by no means a small head. It offers a different spin profile for those who have mid to high swing speeds as it will spin a little less.

There is also an adjustable 8g weight in the front of the sole that enables the fitter to dial in the correct launch characteristics.

Titleist GT4 Driver Review

The Titleist GT4 driver is the most compact looking head and the taller shape brings the CG closer to the face to reduce spin.

The smaller head is good for aerodynamics so it should be faster through the air, but the low spinning design means that you will need a decent amount of club head speed and high launch to get the most from this club.

Titleist GT Driver Fitter Review

To test all the GT heads I co-opted the newest fitter to SGGT Scotland Aaron Ellis to get some data and discuss the performance of each club. Aaron is a scratch golfer with a decent level of swing speed that highlighted the differences between each model.

First up was the GT2 versus TSR2 where Aaron saw an increase of 4mph in ball speed combined with less spin to give an extra 17 yards carry, which was impressive. The club head was 2 mph faster so that could be down to the head design.

Aaron commented, “Even though I was striking the TSR2 better, the GT2 performed better on my low face strikes by keeping speed and not increasing spin. In addition, GT2 is a better shape so I could see this having a broad appeal for more players than TSR2.”

Next up was the GT3 versus TSR3 and again there was a 2mph increase in ball speed with 300rpm less spin which gave an extra 8 yards carry.

Aaron said, “I had the weight in position 2 towards the toe which gave me the best results and the GT3 was an improvement. I liked the sound which is a litter quieter and more solid than TSR3 so this will also be another popular model.”

Finally, Aaron tested the GT4 driver and found that even with his swing speed it was a challenge; “The smaller head makes the club appear longer and with the low spin profile it was a little harder to get going. Ideal for those who have lots of club head speed and can hit the middle of the face consistently so it is a good option for us fitters to have in the Lyle Studio.”
