SGGT England welcomed PGA Pro and YouTuber James Robinson to our Lyle woods studio for a custom driver fitting to find the right shaft for him. With over 200 driver shafts available to fit into any head there was plenty of choice for James and SGGT fitter Laurence to test.

As with all driver clients, Laurence and James discussed what he was looking for from his driver fitting. James wanted a shaft that was more stable and a little easier to shape than his current one. They also discussed the length of the shaft and quickly decided to go for a shorter shaft to create more consistency as there would be more centre strikes, which can also lead to more distance.

James' current driver is the Callaway Paradym with a Project X HZRDUS 6.0 60g shaft and his stock shot was a slight fade from a 109mpg swing speed. However he wanted to move back to the slight draw he used to play and Lawrence took him through the options.

After getting data on his current club, they switch to the more forgiving Titleist TSR3 driver in 9° loft with a Project X HZRDUS Blue to match James' current shaft and the results were more consistent.

Next up was the TPT 17HI shaft with its more stable weave design and this proved to be the best option, despite further checking of other options including the Oban and Autoflex shaft options.

After enjoying his driver custom fitting session at SGGT, James said, "That was an insane driver fitting and I can't believe I have been using the wrong shaft all this time. If you come to SGGT, there's going to be a shaft here for everybody and a head here for everybody."
