Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons Review
03 January 2024
By independent reviewer Martin Hopley
The Callaway Ai Smoke Irons feature a redesigned face engineered with Ai based on Top Tracer shot data from golfers on tour and at Callaway owned facilities like Top Golf. Taking the information on swing speed, club delivery and face orientation that have developed a face that is more forgiving and maximise distance.
The heads are a little longer than before, but the design of the top line makes it appear forgiving with a little hosel offset at address.
The soles are reasonably wide and feature a Dynamic Sole design with a pre-worn leading edge to help with turf interaction.
At impact the sound and feel were very good thanks to the hollow body and face insert design and these should have a lot of appeal to mid to high swing speed players.
Because the face is more forgiving Callaway have added an extra ¼ inch to the shaft length in the 7 to 4-irons to gain club speed without losing accuracy.
The lofts are already pretty strong with a 7-iron at 28° and the 5-iron I tested at 22°. This was a little harder to get going, which is not surprising as the loft is almost the same as an old 3-iron. Therefore don’t be surprised if you set of Ai Smoke irons finishes at 6-iron or maybe 7-iron when you come for a custom iron fitting.

For those that need a little more launch there is also a higher launching Ai Smoke HL iron version of the irons.
This features the same design improvements as the standard iron but with a larger head that has a little more offset, a deeper CG and more loft to get the ball airborne more quickly with more spin.
Callaway Ai Smoke Irons Review Summary
The Callaway Ai Smoke irons are an improvement on the previous Paradym models and provide a better match for the better player Callaway Apex 2024 irons reviewed here. If you are a single figure or mid handicap player looking for a forgiving iron with good feel then the Ai Smoke irons are a worthy contender at your next fitting.
